Living water is phrase that can be found in different books throughout the Bible. However, there four main instances that hold significance. Two of these instances are in the Old Testament and two are in the New Testament.
One of the early examples of Living water in the Bible comes from Jeremiah 2:13 where God says, “my people have committed two sins: they have forsaken me, the spring of the Living Water and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”
What God is saying in Jeremiah 2: 13 is that the Israelites had abandoned Him not only for a dysfunctional but useless god, they, the Israelites chose to discount their blessings by going after the little gods in the land that God had given to them.
Like the Israelites, each of us has a choice today. We can seek blessings from lesser gods, or we can seek blessings from God of the Living Water. Unfortunately, many people in our generation are not making better choices than the ancient Israelites did even though our generation has advantage over ancient Israel! Not only do we have their examples to learn from, but we also have example from the Lord Jesus who came to show us the way, the truth, and the life. – John 14: 6.
Blessing can simply be described as unseen forces, summoned to heaven, and sent to earth to support the beneficiary to succeed, even where others fail. Blessing is therefore one of the gifts from God released to assist His children.
Likewise, what do we mean when we talk about Living Water? Living water in the physical sense is the kind of water that is coming from a spring or stream. However, Living Water in the spiritual sense is the presence of the Holy Spirit with the symbol of salvation and His enablement in the life of a true child of God. It is He who guides, corrects, empowers, and disciplines a true child of the Living God.
Like we discussed in our Bible Class a couple of weeks ago, many people in our world today are ignorant about God and of God! These people do not know about God, much more to talk about knowing the Almighty God.
And this is where you and I come in. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are commanded to care for these Spiritual infants. We are required to love them, we are required to teach them the Word of God, we are commissioned to pray for them, we are commanded to preach the Word of God to them, we are required to encourage and assist them to come to the saving knowledge of the Living God!
In the book of John chapter 4: 7-15 we read about a woman who went to the well to draw water. The Bible said that this woman went to the well in the noon time. Usually, people go to fetch water early in the morning or around evening time.
I believe that Jesus had pre-arranged arranged this divine meeting between Him and the woman. I pray you will not miss your divine appointment in Jesus’ name. Living Water in the spiritual sense has several benefits.
When Jesus engaged the woman in a conversation at the well, He did so to open her eyes to her need for the Living Water. Every living soul needs salvation to avoid going to hell. 2nd Corinthians 4:4 says: “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of God.”
Jesus being the source of the living water gives life and eternal life as well. Romans 6: 23 says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
May the spirit of the His living water fill our hearts, souls, and minds to carry us till the end. Amen.
