Wonders of His Love
One of my favorite songs at Christmas is “Joy to the World”, and I love especially the verse that goes: “He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove; The glories of His righteousness; And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love.” Every time I hear or sing the song, it makes me wonder about this wonder of God’s love. So, what are the wonders of His love?…
Resurrection: A Centerpiece Of Our Faith
Today we celebrate Christ’s resurrection, the day that our Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead. The importance of resurrection for Christians cannot be underestimated. The Word of God made us understand in 1 Corinthians 15:14 that “if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.” In addition to this, as Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:18-19 “those…
Building Character When Our Faith is Tested
The Webster dictionary defines character as one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual. It also calls character moral excellence and firmness. So, in a lot of ways character can be a choice. It is also something that develops in ways that transcend education, training, or position. You cannot acquire character by reading a book. As a matter of fact, it is built rather than acquired. Character is many times used in place of integrity…
Counting The Cost of Discipleship
To understand the written Word of God in its original context, we are to first look at the Hebrew and Greek meaning since the original text of the Bible was written in both Hebrew and Greek. The Hebrew word for disciple is Talmid, meaning Student. Talmid shows the relationship between the Rabbi (Teacher or Master) and the disciple. Also, the Greek meaning is, one who engages in learning through instruction from another or who is Constantly Associated with someone who…
Privileged To Be A Blessing
Many of us are highly privileged, although we seldom accept that we are. Privileges can often lead one to become dispassionate about the social issues that are going on around us. In fact, privileges are quick to become instruments of oppression. A person who grew up in an affluent family is quick to look down on those from modest backgrounds and call them lazy. Folks from privileged backgrounds often blame people stricken with poverty for their own misfortune. We tend…
Blessings In Disguise
I have continued to reflect on the extreme strange circumstances that we have all had to face this year. I said strange, because for those of us in this age, it is quite strange. But it was not quite strange for those who lived through the flu pandemic. However, because they lived through that age, and the strange circumstances they experienced that time, we in this age are able to relatively live with the flu almost as a routine disease. …
The Profit of Loving God With All Your Mind
We have been studying the topic of “Loving God With All Your Mind” in our Bible Study Class for some weeks now using the text book written by Elizabeth George. During the course of our studies, we have addressed several topics including, “Training Your Thoughts”, “Winning Over Worry”, “Pressing For The Price”, and so on. But why is our mind so important to God that He spoke about it in several passages in the Old Testament like Deuteronomy 6 all…
Thinking Of The Present
As I started meditating about writing on this topic, a song immediately came to my mind, “One day at a time”, the version by Cristy Lane. “Yesterday is gone, sweet Jesus, and tomorrow may never be mine. Lord help me today, show me the way, one day at a time”. We all need to live life one day at a time. Just as the Bible has always enjoined us not to dwell on the past, it also teaches us not…

Blessed people of God: Last night, Governor Dewine outlined a responsible protocol for getting Ohio back to work. There are different recommendations in the protocol for different sectors of the Ohio economy. In the outline by the Governor, the stay at home order is still in effect and gatherings of over 10 people are still prohibited in Ohio. One key aspect of the outline…
Thinking About The Future
Times like these affect how we generally think about the future. There is palpable fear about contracting the dreaded novel corona virus. Added to this fear is the uncertainty that the virus has induced everywhere. Uncertainty about your studies, uncertainty about your jobs, uncertainty about your finances, and uncertainty about your health. Sometimes this past week I heard the leading infectious disease expert in the United States say ordinary things like shaking hands or hugging friends may be a thing…
